Bellthorpe Gap Road

Today, Moreton Bay Regional Council awarded local civil engineering company Moreton Bay Civil the contract for the repair to Gap Road, Bellthorpe.

Gap Road was originally closed for 5 weeks, then opened to a 2 tonne weight limit, single lane managed by temporary traffic lights. The road is the only access available to avocado growers to haul their fruit off the mountain.

After further investigations the load limit was increased to 10 tonne in the last couple of weeks.

"I'm looking forward to Moreton Bay Civil arriving on site to start the works" Cr Raedel said "it has been a bit of a wait to get the road back to its full width however its great to see it will start soon."

"Council has in the past, given an undertaking to do everything possible to ensure the avocado growers can get their fruit to market. If that means smaller trucks and forklifts then that's what we'll do or if its a matter of timing we'll work with the growers to get their fruit delivered."

"We have kept the community up to date with weekly notifications and prior to the road opening to single lane, residents were receiving daily emails."

"Bellthorpe Range Road is next on the drawing board with designs currently being drawn up, surveyors were on Range Road the week before last.". Cr Raedel said "This proves the rumours that Council was going to close Range Road were untrue."
