Bellthorpe Roads

Bellthorpe roads have been in the media lately, with both bitumen roads in and out of Bellthorpe being damaged in the January floods and rainfall. With major landslips preventing access to Bellthorpe, Council was quick to act and opened up Stoney Creek Road - a dirt forestry road as a temporary access. Whilt not a fantastic option - it was our only option and it has served to give residents access whilst we investigated ways of opening Gap Road. This road has since been opened with one land and traffic lights. Council has given an undertaking to have Gap Rd accessible as soon as possible for larger vehicles that are needed to transport 100's of tonnes of Avocados off the mountain. Irresponsible reports in the local paper of Bellthorpe being closed permanently are untrue and Council has always given an undertaking that there is no will to close Range Rd. If the newspaper had bothered to ask they would have gotten the same assurances. There is millions of dollars worth of work to be done on the Range Road before it can be reopened and it has now become a work site. Two logs pushed across the road do not constitute what is needed for work place health and safety requirements so guard rail was installed with a post on the outsides of the bitumen and a rail straddling across the road width. The guard rail has been there for approx 3 weeks now - with the story only just being published on Friday. Please see the latest update from Council in regards to the Bellthorpe Roads in the separate post.
